Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about calcium silicate insulation products, ordering, shipping, installation, and technical support.

Product & Technical

Three grades: 650°C, 1000°C, and 1100°C maximum service temperature. Grade 650 matches ASTM C533 Type I (649°C). Grades 1000 and 1100 exceed ASTM C533 Type II (927°C). Select the grade based on your continuous hot-face temperature, not peak or process temperature.

Lime (CaO), silica (SiO2), water, and synthetic reinforcing fibers. Raw materials react in a high-pressure steam autoclave at 190–220°C, forming xonotlite crystals (6CaO·6SiO2·H2O). 100% asbestos-free. No asbestos has ever been used in Mingfa products.

Approximately λ = 0.056 + 0.00011t W/m·K, where t is the mean temperature in °C. At 100°C: λ ≈ 0.058 W/m·K. At 400°C: λ ≈ 0.100 W/m·K. At 800°C: λ ≈ 0.144 W/m·K. Thermal conductivity increases linearly with temperature -- always compare values at your expected operating temperature, not just ambient.

It tolerates occasional moisture far better than ceramic fiber (which loses most insulation value when wet), but it is not waterproof. Outdoor installations need a weather barrier -- metal cladding (aluminum, stainless steel) or mastic coating. Store boards dry before installation. Boards that become saturated must be fully dried before heat-up to prevent steam pressure damage within the insulation layer.

Calcium silicate is a rigid board with higher compressive strength (2–17 MPa), making it suitable for load-bearing backup insulation behind refractory linings. Ceramic fiber is a flexible blanket with lower density and thermal conductivity but very low compressive strength (it compresses under load). Calcium silicate tolerates moisture better and has better dimensional stability. Ceramic fiber has a slightly higher temperature rating (up to 1260°C standard) but loses insulation value if compressed or wetted. Many furnace designs use both: calcium silicate as the structural backup layer, with ceramic fiber as a flexible interface or expansion joint material.

Yes. Unlike some insulation materials, calcium silicate is chemically compatible with aluminum and does not promote corrosion at service temperatures. It is widely used in the aluminum industry as backup insulation in electrolytic reduction cells. However, ensure the insulation remains dry in service, as trapped moisture with any insulation material can contribute to corrosion under certain conditions.

Board dimensions: 600×300mm, 600×400mm, 1000×500mm, 1200×600mm. Thickness: 20mm to 120mm. Pipe sections: ½" to 24" diameter. Custom sizes and CNC-machined shapes available on request. Contact our sales team with your dimensional requirements.

Ordering & MOQ

Standard products: typically 100–500 pieces minimum, depending on board size and thickness. Custom and OEM products: minimum varies by tooling and production setup. Contact us with your specification for an accurate MOQ.

Tell us: (1) product type and temperature grade, (2) dimensions and thickness, (3) quantity, (4) your delivery port. We reply within one business day with pricing, lead time, and shipping estimate.

Yes. Free standard-size samples for evaluation. You cover freight. Contact our sales team with your product type, preferred grade, and dimensions.

Shipping & Delivery

Standard products: 15–30 days from order confirmation. Custom/OEM orders: 30–45 days. Urgent requirements may be expedited -- ask when inquiring.

Fumigated wooden pallets · Waterproof PE film wrap · Protective corner boards · Steel/polyester strapping. Pipe sections packed in cartons or on pallets with dividers. Container loading optimized for volume to reduce per-unit freight cost.

Qingdao port -- one of China's largest container ports, approximately 3 hours by road from our factory. Major shipping lines serve Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Africa, and CIS destinations.

Payment & Terms

T/T (bank transfer) and L/C (letter of credit) are standard. Typical terms: 30% deposit on order, 70% balance before shipment. Terms negotiable for established customers.

FOB Qingdao is standard. CIF to your destination port available. EXW (ex-works) also available if you prefer your own freight forwarder.

Installation & Use

Carbide-tipped circular saw, jigsaw, or band saw. Score-and-snap works for boards up to 25mm. PPE required: safety glasses, N95 dust mask, gloves. No specialized cutting equipment needed.

Stainless steel studs (welded to steel shell) with washers and nuts are standard. High-temperature inorganic adhesive can be used alone or with mechanical fasteners. For high-vibration applications (ladles, transfer cars), use both.

Yes. We provide detailed installation guides, can review your engineering drawings, and make product and fixing recommendations. For large projects, we can recommend qualified installation contractors familiar with calcium silicate products in your region.
